IMAT for MBBS Study in Italy
MBBS in Italy is affordable and recognized by the MCI, making it a much sought after destination for students from India. Students can study their MBBS program within Rs. 3 lakhs and can avail of scholarship, stipend and more as shared in our previous blog. In order to get admission, students interested in pursuing an MBBS from Italy will need to take the International Medical Admission Test or IMAT. Read on to learn more about IMAT.
IMAT is conducted by the Italian Ministry of Education University and Research and is an international level exam. The exam is a pen and paper exam and is required for students who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree in medicine from Italy. The exam itself consists of four sections,namely, Logical reasoning & GK, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. The questions are in multiple choice format (MCQ). Students will need to answer 60 MCQ questions and choose one right answer from five choices. The duration of the test is 100 minutes and no calculators will be provided for the test.
Syllabus:
1.Logical Reasoning & GK (22 MCQ)
This section includes 12 GK and 10 Logical Reasoning, and tests knowledge not necessarily taught in schools
2. Biology (18 MCQ)
Proteins, Nucleotides and Nucleic Acids, Carbohydrates, Lipids, The Cell, Cell Membranes, Cell Division, Cell Respiration, Photosynthesis, Energy, Enzymes, Mendel’s Inheritance, Alleles, Genetic Engineering, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Central Dogma of Biology, Transcription and Translation, Chromosome Mutation, Tissues, Nervous System, Endocrine System, Cardiovascular System, Urinary System, Reproductive System, Respiratory System, Digestive System, Immune System, Skeletal System.
3. Chemistry (12 MCQ)
Atomic Theory, Electron Arrangement, Periodicity, Chemical Properties, Ionic Bonding, Covalent Bonding, Molecular Geometry and Bonding, Intermolecular Forces, The mole concept and Avogadro’s constant, Chemical Equations, Working a Stoichiometry problem, Stoichiometry in Gases and Liquids, Theories of Acids and Bases, Properties of Acids and Bases, Inorganic compounds, Oxidation and Reduction, Organic Chemistry, Hydrocarbons, Aromatic Hydrocarbons, Alcohols – Ethers, Carbonylic groups, Equilibrium.
4. Mathematics & Physics (8 MCQ)
Mathematics: Identities, Equations, Inequalities, Powers of integers, Number Sets, Absolute Value, Ratio – Proportions, Percent Formula-Work Problem, Radicals, Logarithms, Exponential Equations, Solid Geometry, Squares, Circles, Angles – Triangles, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, Conics, Statistics, Probability, Permutations – Combinations.
Physics: Vectors and Scalars, The SI system, Kinematics, Linear momentum, The concept of force, Torque, Work, Energy and Power, Density – Pressure – Archimedes Principle, Ideal gases – Thermodynamics, Electricity, Magnetism, Circular Motion, Simple Harmonic Motion.
How can you apply for IMAT?
All students need to register on the official IMAT website and choose their preferred center while filling up the form. The application fee for the exam is USD 164.
The registrations for IMAT start in June/July. IMAT takes place in the month of September every year and the result of the same can be expected within 2-3 weeks. It is important that students prepare for the exam as they will be competing with students from around the world.
