Working In Malta – Your Checklist

As you decide to move to Malta for employment, here are a few pointers to help you plan your move.
Before arriving-
- Make arrangements for (temporary) accommodation.
- Ensure you have sufficient funds for the first months of your stay.
- Contact the EURES office in Malta through its website (www.eures.com.mt) or visit the Employment and Training Corporation’s website (www.etc.gov.mt) in order to find a job.
- Keep the following documents to hand:
- Valid passport or other valid travel document. (If you have young children accompanying you, ensure that they are on your passport).
- Motor-vehicle documents (such as the driving licence).
- Certificates, diplomas, confirmation of past employment, references (originals and translations if necessary).
- Curriculum vitae.
- Children’s qualifications and declarations of school attendance.
- European Health Insurance Card or other proof of health insurance.
- Form U1 or U2.
- Pet passports for any pets.
- Other personal documents (such as birth and marriage certificates).
- If you use a mobile phone, make sure you have arranged the international calls (roaming) service.
After arriving-
- Register with the Department of Citizenship and Expatriate Affairs (www.foreign.gov.mt).
- Open a bank account.
- Register for a National Insurance Number once you have found employment (www.socialpolicy.gov.mt).
